The Weekend

This is a two in one blog.  It shows my weekend outfit and also what I have been working on this week.  Thisblue crochet shawl was adapted from a scarf pattern, and worked up very quickly as the yarn was thick and I used a 6mm crochet hook.

Underneath the shawl is a very seventies inspired top.  Look out for this fabric in future blogs, as there was quite a lot of it and the rest is earmarked to make an easter present for my mum.
I wore these tops with my 'Miss Sixty' jeans.  I got these last summer and they were a real bargain.  The have big turn-ups at the bottom, and had obviously been too long for the previous owner and had worn a bit at the bottom wher they dragged on the ground.  This was easily fixed by ironing some mending tape over the worn patch on the inside.  I turn the turn-up's up at a differnt point to the previous owner and they comletely cover the marks.

I hope that you enjoyed my clothes week.  I'm off to make cards this afternoon.
More on my latest projects next week.

Friday

Hooray, it's Friday.  The last day of the week that I actually 'go to work'.  Today's outfit is rather subdued for me, but I love it because it alway's seems to get compliments.  It's also what I consider to be a cheat outfit as I didn't make it.  I bought this gorgeous grey cashmere knit dress in a charity shop a couple of years ago.  It's actually mid calf length but I couldn't show this because the knit fabric pulls in on itself and it looks really odd on 'Millie' as she stops at the hips.
The scarf and belt are made by me.  The scarf is a really simple pattern, ny friend taught me.  Cast on 10 stitches, First row: cast off 4 stiches and knit 8 stitches, second and subsequent rows: Cast off 4 stitches, knit 4 stitches, cast on 4 stitches.
The belt was made from an old buckle and a piece of faux suade that I had left over from some place mats I made.
This is the end of my workwear clothes.  I'll put a final post for this series on Sunday to show my weekend clothes.

Thursday

Here's Thursday's outfit.  I really love this fairilse tank top knitted several years ago from a Rowan pattern.  I was trying to use up oddments of yarn so it was perfect (given my current stash, I can feel the need to make another one!).
I wear the tank top over a cream shirt and with my navy blue flare trousers.  I think the trousers are the oldest item in my wardrobe.  They were the first thing I made when I re-took-up dressmaking 11 years ago. I was really proud of the white'tramline' top stitching down the side of the legs and the top stitching on the back pockets.  The pattern is an original from the seventies, which I think was originally bought by my nan to make clothes for my aunt.  I have to mention that I do notice a size difference between this pattern and more recent patterns that I own.  With this pattern I definately need a UK size 14, for more modern pattern's I often find a size 12 too large round my waist.

Wednesday

Half way through the week ..... and here's the latest outfit.  I tried to get some close-ups rather than a full length picture.  Basically it is a knee length olive wrap skirt, a cream shirt, a crochet pale sea green scarf and a chunky knit bolero.

The skirt was made from a remnant and an old pattern that I first made in about 1994.  The remnant wasn't quite big enough and I had to cut the front skirt, under the wrap over, in two sections rather than asingle peice.  As it's under the wrap it really doesn't show.
The bolero was made last January.  The yarn is Rowan biggy print (I still have some left but don't know what to make with it) and the fringing is Rowan cocoon.  Both were bought in the January sale with my Christmas money.
The scarf was my first ever crochet item last January, I had been making the bolero and had left the yarn and the crochet hook out after I made the fringing on the bolero sleeves.  It was acold snowy morning and I sat there with a patern book which contained the crochet instructions and suddenly I found that I was crocheting the scarf.

Tuesday

Here is Tuesday's outfit: an empire line short sleeved shirt with a tie neck and a side zip worn with grey pinstripe wide leg trousers with turn-up's.  The fabric for the shirt was bought two years ago in a sale in John Lewis and the shirt was made up at that time.  The grey pinstripe was bought on ebay and the trousers were made approximately six years ago to be worn at a presentation I was giving at work.  I have recently had to replace the zip and re-sew some of the side seams.
As it's quite cold at the moment I wore a long T-shirt under the shirt and this wrap over the outfit.  The wrap is a new item in my wardrobe as it was made before christmas to wear to a christmas party!
The dark red colour is a big favorite of mine and I have quite a lot of clothes that include this colour in them .  To view more items in this colour click this link blog from 23 April 2010 the bag featured in this blog was also in use today!

Monday

Here is Monday's outfit. The dress is a simple drop waist shift dress made in stretch cord. I made it six years ago for a party. At the party I wore the teal silk scarf, made at the same time from a remnant (and just visable at the neck) as a belt, but it's more appropriate to wear one of my loveley fairysteps belts for work. The cardigan was knitted a year and a half ago in August. I know that because I was knitting it at son's party and his friends all seemed astounded that I was knitting. It was a nice pattern from Ravelry but I can't remember what it was called, the yarn was very cheap in a sale

Tuesday

Sorry today's picture doesn't really do me any favours. The trouble is now I have to get son to take the pictures and to say he's not very enthusiastic is an understatement. Any way todays ensemble is some linen trousers made eight years ago a top that I bought as a sundress about four years ago. I bought it on impulse because I liked the material and as a dress it looked awful on me, so it was turned into a top and the little cardi thing is knitted from a patern in Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/anthropologie-inspired-capelet

I always amazes me how two people knitting essentially the same pattern in the same yarn can produce quite different items. I admit I did make some changes to the pattern so that I could knit it with the two yarns that I had available and as I didn't have a button I made a crochet flower closure. My friend also knitted one of these, she used the same type of yarn, but hers was a sort of 'teddy' brown colour and she had a georgeous large button for hers. She also adapted the pattern to make hers longer (I would probably have done this as well but I had a very limited amount of the yarn).

Monday - My week in clothes, day 1

Here is the little sundress made from the skirt and white shirts yesterday. It turned out well considering the skirt was only made from remnants of material in the first place (two of which were curtain fabric). I made the belt about five years ago from some leftover fake suade that I had made place mats from.

I also finished the crochet cardi yesterday, but more on that later in the week. As daughter has gone away for most of this week I won't have to share the computer so much and so I have decided to do something that I wanted to do when I started this blog. I want to blog 'My week in clothes' and put a picture of what I am wearing on the blog everyday this week.

ou may notice my sandals in the above picture these were made by the lovely Ren, they are an absolute favourite when it's hot like today. You can find them on the following link

I keep promising myself another pair, but I just can't decide on the colour!
